50KVAR Capacitor is used for Power Factor Improvement / Correction. In Kenya, the power factor for an electrical installation should be at or above 0.9 lagging. This is enforced by Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). A surcharge / penalty is applied on Kenya Power & Lighting Company Company (KPLC) monthly bills each time the power factor falls below 0.9.
